Estimation of Water and Energy Saving by Rainwater Harvesting: Sulaimani City as a Case Study

Rainwater harvesting could be a possible solution to decrease the consequences of water scarcity and energy deficiency in Iraq Kurdistan Region (KRI). This study aims calculate (electricity) saved by rainwater for rooftops green areas Sulaimani city, KR, Iraq. Various data were acquired from different formal entities city. Moreover, Google Earth ArcMap 10.4 software used digitizing calculating total rooftop areas. The results showed that runoff coefficients (0.8 0.95), harvested volumes 2901563 12197131 m³ during period (2005 – 2006) (2019-2020). comparing area's volume production, water-saving percentage was 8.21 22.68%. Furthermore, energy-saving recorded 7.70 22.5% implementing harvesting. On other hand, using average daily rainfall year (2005-2020), rate both very close. Water calculated year-by-year data, taking more time effort its computation. selected area not encouraging, between 0.73 11.15%. Additionally, storage size three typical buildings calculated, show required 11.2 14.68 (house), 291.42 422.33 (school), 10.5 11.41 (hotel) 0.8 0.95, respectively.
